The Hammar MRRS Release Systems
The Hammar Remote Release System (MRRS) is designed to release heavy loads with little effort at a distance of maximum 100 meters. By means of a vacuum pump, which is perated manually, the vacuum is conveyed via stainless steel tubing to a release unit. A membrane is activated, releasing a sharp knife of stainless steel which cuts the rope sling holding the object to be released.
The object can be liferafts, radiobeacons, escape slides or other types of safety equipment. In principle, one pump can operate more than one remote release unit, thereby releasing more than one liferaft. To uphold the highest lifesaving capacity of the ship al all times, one must be sure that all liferafts, which are connected to the same pump, are free from blockage and have free access to the water, so this is not always an option. The system is suitable for installation up to 50 metres in length.
How to operate:
- Pull down and pump until the liferaft or other safety appliance is released.
- Pull the white painter line of the liferaft to start inflation NOTE: In all liferaft systems it is important to ensure free float function in all conditions and as the liferafts must be connected to the ship via its painter line and a strong point (such as the deck) it is necessary to have a standard Hammar H20 hydrostatic release unit as well. This could be a separate unit or in combination with the remote release unit. Further information can always be obtained from C M Hammar AB.
